About me
-
I am a PGCE and QTS qualified teacher of Modern Foreign Languages. I trained and worked in Gloucestershire. I also hold a BA Hons degree in French and History from the University of Birmingham.
-
I am fortunate to have been brought up in a bilingual household thanks to my French mum and speak French and English interchangeably.
-
Prior to becoming a teacher I worked for 11 years in the Energy industry, including 5 years for a German company and 5 months in Paris. My move to teaching was driven by an urge to use my French and a desire to share my passion for the language with young people.
-
I am fully DBS checked and also am a member of the Chartered College of Teaching
-
My decision to concentrate on tutoring was prompted by my wish to spend more time with my wife and newborn son!
My approach and pricing
APPROACH
-
I always start with one free lesson for any individual. This allows me to check the student's level and discuss their aspirations.
-
This session also allows both parties to check it is a good fit before agreeing to continue. I then can go away and create a suitable approach for learning and tailor resources accordingly.
PRICING
-
£35 per 50 minute online session on Zoom (I do blocks of six lessons and take payment up front)
-
£40 per 50 minute Face to Face (upon discussion in Bristol area)
Note: I have a 24hr cancellation policy
Testimonials
I had French lessons with Luke having not spoken French since school age 20 years ago. He was brilliant! The lessons were well prepared, tailored specifically to me, and always used interesting and engaging content from literature, film, music and sports to bring the language to life. He was especially good at teaching grammar and how to construct sentences, words and tenses properly, explaining not just how things are but why they are that way. The lessons were so easy to digest because of his delivery and ability to break difficult concepts down and make them intuitive. Luke made learning French very enjoyable and accessible!

Luke did an excellent job tutoring some of our below-target students to help them catch up after lockdown. He was conscientious and tailored French lessons to their needs with the right mix of skills to help them progress. The students enjoyed their sessions and we were very happy with the final results
Martin B - Head of French at a Grammar School in Lancashire
Luke supported many pupils and worked closely with them, devising lesson plans and activities, working to build both their subject knowledge as well as their confidence and study skills.
Luke’s help has been very much appreciated by the schools and has provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to benefit from some intensive one to one support in preparation for their exams.
Luke was a committed, reliable and enthusiastic volunteer, relating very well to those he came into contact with through the programme, including pupils, teachers and fellow tutors, and was a valuable volunteer both for the school and for our organisation.
